One Chart Shows How Many Fewer Americans Are Working Than 7 Years Ago

The number of Americans working in the United States has decreased by 1,148,000 over the last seven years, according to BLS data reported by CNS News. In November 2006, 145,534,000 Americans held jobs, and in November 2013, only 144,386,000 Americans held jobs.

Why is November 2006 politically significant? That is when the Democrats took over Congress. While the national debt mounts at a pace set to double over the course of the Obama presidency, entitlements are growing, and the labor force has shrunk. That means a heavier burden put by government on the backs of American workers, no matter how one cuts it.
