Leader of the leftist National Movement Regeneration party, also known as Morena, has been accused of receiving US $125,000 monthly from ex-Governor and fugitive Javier Duarte.
Governor of the Mexican state of Veracruz, Miguel Angel Yunes, announced the accusation against Andrés Manuel López Obrador, also known as AMLO, this week.
“He says if I show him that Duarte gave him money, he will renounce politics,” Yunes said through various social media outlets. “He would do a great good to Mexico.”

Yunes said AMLO and his movement received the money in response to threats related to providing water to the residents of Coatzacoalcos, and closing valves in Yuribia.
Yunes said he would send AMLO a copy of the agreement dating back to the 2016 political campaign in which Duarte appeared to be providing the money.

“Ah, but I also refresh your memory of what you did in the 2016 campaign,” he said in a video. “You agreed with Duarte and Gabriel Deantes, who was the Financial Operator for Duarte and today is criminally charged for receiving money…There is a recording that we will upload in a little while longer.”
In that agreement with Duarte, AMLO’s sister-in-law, brother’s wife, Carol Jessica Moreno Torres, is allegedly named as senior officer of the Secretary of Education of Veracruz.
