Donald Trump coaxes business leader to tell the story about Trump’s hole-in-one
During a meeting with business leaders, the president prodded Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE, to tell the gathering about the time he witnessed Mr. Trump shoot a hole-in-one at one of Mr. Trump’s own golf courses.
“Jeff actually watched me make a hole-in-one,” Mr. Trump said. “Can you believe that? Should you tell that story?”
Mr. Immelt dutifully told the tale of their golf outing in 2004, during negotiations for Mr. Trump to star in “The Apprentice” on NBC. GE owned NBC at the time.
“We were trying to talk President Trump into doing ‘The Apprentice,’ ” Mr. Immelt said. “President Trump goes up to a par three on his course. He looks at the three of us and says, ‘You realize, of course, I’m the richest golfer in the world.’ And then gets a hole-in-one.”
The executives and administration officials around the conference table, including Vice President Mike Pence, erupted in laughter.
The president offered a slight correction to the story.
“I actually said I was the best golfer of all the rich people, to be exact,” Mr. Trump said. “But then I got a hole-in-one. So it was sort of cool.”
